The Desperation Of The Jungle

This was brought to my attention in an email.  According to Tim Rohr:

Dear Kiko's

In May of 2009, the University of Notre Dame, the United States' most prestigious Catholic university, gave the most pro-abortion president in history an honorary degree. Kiko is in good company.

http://www.junglewatch.info/2015/04/kiko-is-in-good-company.html

My response:

Dear Jungle,

You got your universities mixed up.  Kiko is receiving an honorary degree from the Catholic University of America (CUA), which is a private university in Washington DC.  It is a pontifical university of the Catholic Church in the United States and the only institution of higher education founded by the U.S. Catholic bishops.  The initiators of the NCW is not receiving anything from the University of Notre Dame.

The University of Notre Dame, on the other hand, is located in South Bend, Indiana.  The founder of the University of Notre Dame was Father Edward Sorin who also became the university's president.  Apparently, the jungle is so desperate that it purposely mention the University of Notre Dame to fool its readers into thinking that this was the university that will be awarding the honorary degree to the initiators of the Neocatechumenal Way.  If the jungle truly cares about FACTS, then Tim Rohr should mention the CORRECT university.

Regarding the Catholic University of America (taken from Wikipedia):
It has been called one of the 25 most underrated colleges in America,[6] one of the nation's best colleges by the Princeton Review,[7] one of the best values of any private school in the country by Kiplinger's,[8] "one of the most eco-friendly universities in the country,"[9] was awarded the "highest federal recognition an institution can receive" for community service,[10] and has been recommended by the Cardinal Newman Society in The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College.[7]
CUA's programs  stays closely connected with the Catholic Church and Catholic organizations. The American Cardinals Dinner is put on by the residential U.S. cardinals each year to raise scholarship funds for CUA. The university has a long history of working with the Knights of Columbus; the university's law school and basilica have dedications to the involvement and support of the Knights.
The university has been visited twice by reigning Popes. Pope John Paul II visited on October 7, 1979.[11] On April 16, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI gave an address on Catholic education and academic freedom on campus.[12][13]

Since 1896, the Catholic University of America has conferred more than 300 honorary degrees. Recipients have come from virtually every walk of life – professors, poets, cops, kings, journalists, judges, bishops, and politicians.

Included among them are Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, and Lyndon Johnson; Rev. Mother (now Saint) Katharine Drexel, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, and Cardinals Francis Spellman, Stephen Wyszynski, George Basil Hume, and Luis Antonio Tagle.

All have made contributions to the Church and/or society that earned them this special recognition.

Now in less than a month’s time, Kiko Argüello and Carmen Hernandez will be honored for their precious contribution to the Catholic Church.

Yes, it is THIS University - the Catholic University of America - that have conferred honorary degrees to these renown people.  So, do not let the jungle fool you.

    LOL. LOL. LOL.

In his eagerness to discredit the Neocatechumenal Way, he slips up constantly.

Dear Tim, even Cardinal Tagle, the big friend of your protector Benavente, received the Doctorate Honoris Causa from this University that is going to give the Doctorate to Kiko and Carmen.

    ____________

And by the way, contrary to what you wrote to the Vatican, Father Luis was NEVER in Saipan after the incident. Another lie. Another howler.

No wonder the Vatican disregards your fiery letters.

    Check your sources, my dear.

    ______________

And another by the way, what happened to the recourses to the Vatican of Mgr. Benavente and Father Gofigan? Silence, silence, silence…

You have it all wrong, dear Tim. Keep roaring (it rhymes with Rohr)…

  3. Yep. Timmy used the name of another university only because that particular university awarded an honorary degree to President Obama, who was pro-abortion. He totally ignored the fact that it was the CUA that would be giving Kiko and Carmen the award. If this honorary award really meant nothing, he would have used the correct name of the university.

    1. Dear Anonymous at 9:36 pm,

I agree. Some universities hold to a much higher standard than others. I have noticed that Tim is even inventing stories as to why the Archbishop used an off-island law firm who specialized in "corporation soles" to render an opinion. Apparently, Tim is questioning the credibility of this prominent law firm, and he's not even a lawyer.

    2. Diana, are you a lawyer, a theologian, you seem to launch into any and every subject with great authority.

    3. It's not the "credibility" of the "prominent law firm" that is being questioned, Diana. It is the ETHICS of that "prominent law firm" allowing themselves to be used to issue an opinion when the "prominent law firm" is not licensed to practice on Guam. Many non-lawyer Catholics have asked WHY the archbishop used that "prominent law firm" from DENVER years after the lawyer of the archdiocese had already advised him about the RMS property. Was it because Mr. Terlaje did not provide the opinion that the archbishop wanted to hear?

And then we heard that the opinion from the "prominent law firm" was only available for a LIMITED TIME, that a person who wanted to view the opinion had to MAKE AN APPOINTMENT and then STAND TO READ the document at the counter under the supervision of a chancery employee. The opinion from the "prominent law firm" could not be copied or photographed and no notes were allowed to be taken. We thought it was just rumor and hearsay because that information was not included in the Umatuna article. But then it turned out to be true. All CCOG and the rest of us have asked for is transparency and accountability from our archbishop BUT I guess it was too much to expect from our archbishop. That is so sad.

    4. Dear Anonymous at 1:00 pm,

That is a prominent law firm. Do you think they would ruin their reputation if they were to do something illegal as Tim Rohr suggested. If it was illegal for the Archbishop to hire them in the first place, wouldn't this law firm know that? And would they risk their reputation for doing something illegal?

Mr. Terlaje was on the side of the Archbishop. Tim Rohr misinterpreted Mr. Terlaje's letter. Mr. Terlaje was addressing the former finance council about alienating the property. He was not referring to the Archbishop. All the information that Tim Rohr gets was misinterpreted by him...including the news article written by Tim Perez. Transparency and accountability is being given to you. How that information has been used by the jungle is the problem, which is the reason why CCOG continues to ask.

The information on the RMS seminary was already given to you in the Umatuna and in the chancery. If CCOG actually believes that the seminary in Yona does NOT belong to the Archdiocese of Agana, then they can take it to the courts and settle the matter there.

    5. Hasn't anyone read Animal Farm??? Mr. Rohr's motto should be "all catholics are equal in the eyes of God, but some are more equal than others. And I choose who these people are" It does not matter that the law firm in Denver has been used by many of AAA's brother bishops and that they are experts in Canon Law as well as secular law. Those details are not relevant to CCOG because after all, why choose the best man for the job instead of the one that toes party line? You want to talk about transparency? Show us the money receipts you received from Benavente, Mr. Rohr. Oh, no, wait, there are no receipts because what you received were "gifts", any free plots of land, Mr Rohr? Just for or for your whole family?
Let us not forget who this dictator of what should be Catholic policy is: a self interested individual who has used the Church of God for his own private gain. Hello, Simon Magus.

When Rohr, who insults all Catholics by calling people who want to deepen their faith as "Kikos", obtains the results that the Way has (yes, saved marriages, vocations, reconciliations etc), when he has received the accolade and approval for his hate speech and lies from the pope, no wait, from 6 popes, the support of numerous bishops and cardinals, when he has received international doctorates, and has gone evangelizing to all countries, then will he have the credentials to criticize. Until then his vociferations are just KoolAid. Jungle followers want to drink the KoolAid? Go ahead.

Doesn't it say something to you that all the most active and faithful groups of the Church (Opus, Communion and Liberation, Focolare, Charismatic Renewal, NCW) all collaborate and are friendly with each other? Who is this realtor who self-styles himself defensor fidei all the while having secret business deals? He acts alone, not in communion with anyone but himself and priests with dubious records! Wake up people!

    7. Dear Anonymous at 10:11 am,

Transparency is given. You were already told through the Umatuna that the Redemptoris Mater Seminary is under the Archdiocese of Agana. It is the information itself that you do not like.

    8. Diana . Seminary is not under the archdiocese. This is the problem. Property stone from archdiocese. It is our property. It is our money. Not yours. Our money.

    9. Maybe true, but for the exclusive use of NCW FOREVER. BtW, Diana, dear, you are not transparent. are you? No.

    10. Dear Anonymous at 2:40 am,

If it is not under the Archdiocese as you say, then why don't CCOG take the Archbishop to court???? Instead of having a protest and a motorcade, take the Archbishop to court to get the property back. But they won't? Now, why is that?

And it was NOT your money that built that seminary. The money came from an anonymous donor. Your money never had anything to do with it.

From now on, he is called to be subject to others, to serve them in the communion of the Church, and to "obey and submit" to the Church's leaders, holding them in respect and affection...............

    16. no, I don't see. All I see is that you accuse Diana of exactly the same thing you are doing.

  4. Dear Diana, you mention it but I think it's worth mentioning that while notre dame is one of the catholic universities who fall into the category of catholic institutions that were mentioned by Benedict xvi as not adhering to catholic doctrine on morality etc CUA is one of the few catholic universities that are faithful to the teachings of the church. Georgetown, Fordham, Marymount, Loyola all fall into the dubious catholic. CUA falls into the category of Steubenville, And christendom.

There are cardinals including o'malley and Dolan on the committee that awards honorary docs and the fact that KIKO and carmen receive the award from CUA and not notre dame is further confirmation that legitimately catholic institutions recognize the valid and important contribution of the way to the church.

The adversaries of Archbishop are deriding this conferral of this Doctorate to Kiko and Carmen.

Well, among the previous Doctors ‘Honoris Causa’ we can mention

      • Saint Mother Katharine Drexel, a tremendous apostle among native Americans
      • Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, a champion of charity
      • Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, an inspiring preacher
      • Servant of God Stephen Wyszynski, the responsible for the survival of Polish Christianity under Communism
      • Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, presently Archbishop of Manila

      Do they deride them also?

Well, one cannot make blind people see colors. We cannot make unreasonable people reason.

  6. Catholic University of America Confers Honorary Degree on Initiators of the Neocatechumenal Way
Kiko Argüello and Carmen Hernandez To Receive Honoris Causa from Pontifical University on May 16th
    By Staff Reporter

ROME, April 15, 2015 (Zenit.org) - The Catholic University of America (CUA) has announced that they will confer honorary degrees on Kiko Argüello and Carmen Hernandez, the initiators of the Neocatechumenal Way on Saturday, May 16th, 2015.

The conferral of the honoris causa by the only Pontifical University in the United States was proposed several years ago and was decided following Pope Francis' meeting with the Neocatechumenal Way on March 6th.

During that meeting, in which 250 families were sent in mission, the Holy Father defined the itinerary of Christian formation as "a true gift of Providence to the Church of our time."

Argüello and Hernandez introduced the Neocatechumenal Way in the United States in 1974, following an invitation by the then head of liturgy of the diocese of Brooklyn, Msgr. James Donegan. Following an invitation to speak on sacred music, the late Cardinal Terence Cooke welcomed the initiators, allowing them to visit the parishes in New York.

Currently, the Neocatechumenal Way is present in 82 dioceses and 350 parishes with about 1000 communities throughout the United States. About 1.5 million faithful follow the itinerary of Christian formation throughout the world.

This is the third honoris causadegree conferred upon Argüello who received an honorary doctorate from the John Paul II Institute of Rome in 2009 and an honorary doctorate in Theology from the University of Lublin (Poland) in 2013.

The conferral of the honorary degree from CUA on Carmen Hernandez as well, according to a communique released by the Neocatechumenal Way, "underlines her fundamental contribution to the formation of the theological-catechetical synthesis of the Way."

"Without her existential and profound knowledge of Scripture, of the renewal of the Second Vatican Council and of the history of the Church, it would not have been possible to create this itinerary of Christian initiation," the press release stated. (J.A.E.)

  7. Catholic University to Welcome Pope Francis

The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis will celebrate Mass on the east portico of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception overlooking the University Mall.

John Garvey, President of The Catholic University of America, has confirmed that during his upcoming visit to Washington Pope Francis will celebrate Mass from the east portico of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, where the University holds its Commencement exercises each year. The congregation attending the Mass, which will take place on Sept. 23, will assemble in the area surrounding the steps of the Basilica, including the 3.6-acre University Mall.

“We are overjoyed that Pope Francis will not only be coming to Washington but will be on the campus of our pontifical University,” said President Garvey. “I know that it will be a great thrill for our students, faculty, and staff to see the Holy Father and to know that as he looks out over the congregation during the Mass, he will also be seeing the pathways and buildings that members of our community frequent every day on their way to and from class. We look forward to working with the Archdiocese of Washington, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in all the necessary preparations for the Mass," said Garvey.

Pope Francis announced in January that in addition to visiting Philadelphia for the World Meeting of Families, he will stop in New York and Washington, D.C., during his trip to the United States. During the Mass on the steps of the Basilica, he will canonize American missionary Blessed Junipero Serra.

The Catholic University of America is the national university of the Catholic Church, founded by the U.S. Catholic bishops in 1887. It is the only U.S. university to have been visited by two popes – John Paul II in 1979 and Benedict XVI in 2008. Both pontiffs delivered addresses on the topic of Catholic higher education.

  8. Pope Francis will celebrate Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception when he visits the United States in September.

The Archdiocese of Washington and Catholic University of America announced the Mass on Monday. The pope will lead the Mass from the east portico of the Basilica, looking out on the 3.6-acre outdoor space where the university holds its annual commencement ceremony.

Roberta Mayo, who works in the public affairs office at the university, said that officials have not yet decided how they will handle ticketing for the Mass.

The last time a pope visited Catholic University, when Pope Benedict XVI came to the college in 2008, the university permitted members of the public who obtained tickets in advance to attend, Mayo said.

She said that officials from the university and the diocese will make plans for the logistics of Francis’s visit in the coming weeks. The Mass is planned for Sept. 23.

The university said in a statement that during the Mass, Francis will canonize Junipero Serra, a Franciscan missionary who was largely responsible for spreading Catholicism in the American West. He founded 21 missions before his death in 1784. The pope will make him a saint at the Mass in Washington.

During Benedict’s visit in 2008, the pope also celebrated Mass at Nationals Park. Thousands of people requested tickets.

Plans for Francis’s visit also include a meeting with the president on Sept. 23 and an address to Congress on Sept. 24. He will travel to Philadelphia and New York as well.

If you think the Lord Rules the World; you also have a problem.

Lets take Dededo for instance; 40-50 thousand people maybe. Of those 40-50 thousand people how many actually go to Church on Sundays...800; 900?....let us be generous and say 2000.

We may think that the Lord Rules the World but not in Dededo. What are the other 38 to 48,000 people doing? The same can be applied to all villages.

If you go deeper...of those 2000, how may go to church because it is a "obligation" or my father; my mother drags me to go.

Kiko does not rule anything Anonymous and he'll probably say that he is the worst sinner in church any given Sunday.

He does proclaim the Gospel though in practice which is better than riding around in a caravan honking the horn.

Proclaim the Word of God....the Gospel is what Jesus said. He didn't say to ride around honking our horn.

If you were to go to Mass this morning; the second reading from the letter of Saint John starts by saying

Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.

We can only do this through the Spirit of the risen Lord that makes it impossible to keep the love within ourselves if truly we are in communion with Jesus Christ.

just saying to ourselves that the Lord is Ruler and Master of the world affirms our "own" faith..yes....but faith without action is nothing.

There are thousands of people out there who we need to share this faith, this love with......and we can't do it by just driving by.

Tim Rohr was deliberately trying to discredit Kiko by citing another university.

The Pope and the teaching Magisterium can NEVER make an error in regards to "faith and morals" due to infallibility. The Pope however, can err on matters of politics and anything OUTSIDE the realm of "faith and morals." So, yes, the Pope can make a mistake when giving a "political" opinion.
