Regarding the visitation of the three Archbishops to Guam, there has been contradictory reports as to the reason of their visit. Father Adrian announced to KUAM that it would be a pastoral visit. They will be visiting the clergy, and the religious and members of different groups on the island. Tim Rohr, on the other hand, believes that they will be here to do an investigation. Father Adrian, however, says that there will be no investigations. Reporting to KUAM, he stated: "No in our communications with Vatican they have specifically said it was a pastoral visit to the archdiocese." Father Adrian assured us that there will be no investigations and that was in accordance to their communication with the Vatican. Where did Tim Rohr get his information that there will be an investigation? Is he in direct communication with the Vatican? No one seems to be asking him the source of his information. Why don't they demand to see written proof that there will be an investigation? According to KUAM news:
Father Adrian says that Archbishop Savio is concerned about the missionary efforts of various churches all throughout the world and because Guam plays a vital role in the evangelization of Micronesia and the pacific region they will want to know what efforts the archdiocese is making. He adds the recent controversies within the church are not the motive for the pastoral visit.
Three Archbishops Visiting Guam In January
The Neocatechumenal Way has been active in the evangelization of the Church and in producing priestly vocations. Father Santiago was sent to Japan on mission while Father Edwin was sent to Kenya. There are also mission families from Guam who were sent on missions.
Four Diocesan Priests Sent On Missions
As Christians, we must place our trust in Christ and His Church. It is Christ who guides and instructs His Church because He is the Head of the Church. To place our trust on the Church means to place trust on the Church leaders. Like the Pope, the Archbishop comes to us as Christ's representative. Christ leads His Church through the leadership of the Pope and Bishops who are in communion with Him. We place our trust in Christ and His Church.

ReplyDeleteArchbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai, the secretary of the Vatican Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, will visit Guam along with Rev. Tadeusz Nowak and Archbishop Martin Krebs, apostolic delegate to the Pacific islands.
The Agana Archdiocese announced the visit in a statement two days ago. The three representatives will be on Guam from Jan. 4 to 10.
In a letter to Apuron dated Dec. 11, Cardinal Fernando Filoni said the pastoral visit would be done “with the hope of fostering reconciliation and mutual understanding in the archdiocese.”
Rev. Adrian Cristobal, spokesman for Apuron, said Filoni is the cardinal prefect with the Rome-based Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
Meeting
Although details of the visit have not been finalized, Cristobal said Tai-Fai, Nowak and Krebs plan on meeting with the clergy, members of the laity and various groups.
This is Tai-Fai and Nowak’s first visit to Guam in an official capacity and Krebs’ second visit to Guam this year.
Tai-Fai is secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, which Cristobal said is part of the Roman Curia whose work is to “direct and coordinate throughout the world the actual work of spreading the Gospel as well as missionary cooperation.” Additionally, because the Agana Archdiocese is considered a mission diocese, it falls under the care of this congregation.
They are coming to investigate why this diocese is disjointed, in disarray, and divided. They are not coming because of AAAs' invitation earlier.

Rather than speaking to the Archbishop, they went to the media and involve the laity to side with them against the Archbishop. In fact, you even had a deacon who got himself involved with an organization called "Concerned Catholics of Guam, Inc." that is clearly opposed to the Archbishop and whose real intention is to remove him from his position. Can I get on the excommunication list too? If Apuron excommunicates all those who are against his failed leadership and policies then he will have no church left and no more donors. Current and former Politicians, priests, musicians, CEOS, laity, teachers, doctors, lawyers, respected members of our community, the manamko, management, service workers, professionals- heck even AAAs Sablan and Apuron family will get the axe. The NCW can't carry or shoulder the burden of these finances or operations. They were once lost souls that found the "way" that in my book should have been left lost to perish and leave. It's natural selection only the strong and healthy survive.

Tim Rohr was mentioned in this post because he says that the Archbishops are here to investigate the Archdiocese, so my comment is in the context of what I originally posted here.
You just don't know how to let Tim go. Just because a recording exists does not mean Tim recorded it. Besides, a recording is not necessary for there were many witnesses to what the Archbishop said.

Coming here due to problems is not the same as coming in to investigate. Perhaps, you need to clarify yourself. What exactly did you hear the Archbishop say? Did you hear him say that they are coming here to investigate or because they heard of the problems they have here?
As I said in one of my comments above......they are here on a pastoral visit, and I hope that their visit will bring some unity and reconciliation. One reason for a pastoral visit is to determine how to resolve problems that exist. Archbishop Krebs last visit was a pastoral visit, and his recommendation to our problems was to build bridges.

For your information, Archbishop Krebs also came to Guam on a pastoral visit. He did not investigate the Archdiocese. He was already aware of the problems that exist due to the flooding of letters into his office. And his recommendations was to build bridges. Unfortunately, that recommendation flew out the window once a rogue priest leaked out a recording of a closed meeting. And the purpose of the leak was to mock the words of the Archbishop.

DeleteFirst of all, Anonymous 10:10 am was not even saying that we are a separate Church. When he/she stated that it is YOUR problem......he/she was referring to your hatred rather than the Church. You are correct that you did not say that you hate the Archbishop. What you did say was accuse Father Adrian of being a "spin doctor." In other words, you are saying that he was a liar. Calling someone a liar without any evidence is already a prejudice judgment.
You were not portraying what the Archbishop was saying in Mongmong. You were interpreting what he said. Father Adrian said that there is not going to be an investigation, but a pastoral visit. You, on the other hand, think there will be an investigation. To investigate means to search out and examine the particular problems, especially in an attempt to find a motive, cause, or culprit.
I do not think that the three Archbishops came here to find fault with the Archbishop, but hopefully to resolve some of the problems we have here so that reconciliation can take place. As Anonymous 10:10 am pointed out, it is those opposing the Archbishop who has a problem. In fact, they have all kinds of questions to ask the Archbishop such as the NCW, the liturgy, and even the RMS seminary. We're not the ones asking the questions. We're not the ones who set up a non-profit organization to investigate the Archdiocese.
This Archdiocese can't even lead it's home land properly...and they want to go to other lands? Or maybe the only care about other lands.

First, let us give thanks and praise to our Lord Jesus Christ, who died that we might live. We wait in joyful hope for the innocent child who will redirect the course of history. Happy Advent to all!
They say that timing is everything, and this past week was for me a reminder of that adage. Last Wednesday started with anticipation, and ended with the realization that my participation in a newly formed organization could result in censure. That means the total stripping of my faculties to carry out my ministry of service as a deacon. My day ended deep into the night, prayerfully asking the Holy Spirit for guidance and courage in a decision I had to make. I cannot discuss the details, but that event is not yet over. However, it is not the central point to this writing. It is how our Church is constantly working to bring people to God through effective communications.
As usual, after morning prayers I read the PDN and then the Pope app on my phone. Pope Francis is a down to earth guy, and seems to connect to all people. It is easy to see the face of Jesus in this man, a holy figure who really cares for the poor, the disenfranchised, and the disheartened. The words he spoke to the Catholic press corps of Italy on the morning of December 16 seemed as if they were spoken by the Vicar of Christ directly to me as well. Pope Francis emphasized that “courageous frankness and freedom are the characteristics of the authentic communicator, and of Catholic communications especially.” You really have to admire a man that reacts to criticism by asking, “please, tell me more!”
We often see individuals, sometimes even very public leaders, who react to criticism in a different way. They try to drown out a dissenting voice. Spin doctors tell half-truths or outright lies to mislead the public. Some leaders try to squash the very existence of a dissenter. Perhaps worst of all is a leader who confronts questions of their policy with arrogant silence. So the Pope’s words were very significant when in my own particular situation I benefitted by hearing it from the Holy Father’s perspective.
Pope Francis went on to remind our Church leaders, “To open, and not to close,…” channels of dialogue “is the second task of the communicator.” We live in a world today where information is available almost immediately, and secrets are rarely successfully kept secret. Perhaps for old time communicators this information is startling or uncomfortable, where people can judge our actions almost before we can judge them ourselves. But the Pope’s message to the Italian Catholic press was clear…if you are confused at my actions, or disagree with my decision please come to me so we can talk about it like good Christian adults should. Succinct. Straightforward. Christian. Thank you Pope Francis for reminding us how Jesus taught us to resolve problems. Open and honest discussion actually works, and I hope more people give truth and dialogue a chance.
And by the way. In case you haven’t heard, there is a new group on Guam that also believes in open dialogue. They recently formed Concerned Catholics of Guam to try and help our local Church. The Articles of Incorporation state that the “primary purpose of the Corporation is to defend, … promote, … and develop the Catholic Faith…” These are lofty goals for an organization. These are ideals I have proudly affixed my name to. Let us pray for their success, and let us look to their example of communication as a way to solve our problems.
May the Baby Jesus bless and protect us all.
