Reason For JPII Seminary

There has been questions as to why we have a second seminary on Guam.  The jungle claims that it is because the RMS seminary was not a diocesan seminary, which is further from the truth.  In fact, Tim Rohr is even claiming that he was the one responsible for the establishment of the second seminary, which is false.  Tim Rohr had absolutely nothing to do with the establishment of a second seminary.

According to a press release dated December 17, 2013 (the bold is mine):

The new Saint John Paul II Archdiocesan Seminary will complement the Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary in Yona, which opened in 1999.

Both seminaries are diocesan seminaries owned by the Archdiocese of Agana; however one will underscore the local mission in the archdiocese while the other will have the added element of availability for the world wide  mission.

http://cathnews.co.nz/2013/12/17/second-seminary-open-guam/

According to the Articles of Incorporation for RMS, Article III (capitalization and bold is mine):

"The purpose of the Corporation shall be to establish and conduct a House of formation to prepare men for the priesthood for the NEW EVANGELIZATION  following the life and practice of the Neocatechumenal Way."

To put it simply, the RMS priests are NOT being trained to be Neocatechumenal Way priests.  Rather, they are being trained for "world wide evangelization".  The practice and life of the Neocatechuemenal Way deals with this new evangelization (which is a world wide evangelization).  The mission families and itinerants of the Way are sent on a world wide mission.  They are sent on missions to foreign countries.  The Redemptoris Mater Seminary is an institution preparing men for priesthood for world wide evangelization - a world wide evangelization which the Neocatechumenal Way practices.  The jungle claimed that the second seminary was established because the RMS is not a diocesan seminary.  This is only a rumor started by them.  Another rumor started by the jungle is that the Redemptoris Mater Seminary is forming Neocatechumenal Way priests.  The truth is the Redemptoris Mater Seminary is forming priests for the NEW EVANGELIZATION.

A second seminary was established because some seminarians do not want to go on world wide missions.  Both seminaries are diocesan seminaries and both seminaries produce diocesan priests.  The only difference is that it is the RMS priest is the one being prepared to go on world wide missions while those in the JPII seminary are not.

Tim Rohr did not read the Bible. He wrote it.

God said “Let there be light!” And Tim Rohr answered “When did you get my permission?”

Gosh, we have two seminaries, One I hate, the other I made... said Tim Rohr. Perhaps I shall emigrate to Saipan to make another seminary there.

  3. Two things that render your post null and void:

    1) Article III of the RMS by-Laws, which is the "Purpose," states very clear that the Seminary is specifically forming priests in preparing "men for the priesthood of evangelization, following the life and itinerary of Neocatechumenal Way as a way of formation in accordance with the precepts of the Roman Catholic Church" [fyi, just because it's stated in this "Purpose," this is not direct evidence that the NCW is "approved" by the Church. To attempt to cite it as such would render that argument as flawed and defective]

    2) Your cited article is actually directly from the original Umatuna Si Yu'os article which is cited and linked to at the bottom of the CathNews article. In other words, no objectivity.

Once again, you failed to provide any objective evidence for your assertion.

    1. Dear Anonymous at 9:19 am,

And who are YOU to make the determination that the NCW is NOT approved by the Church???? Are you the Pope??? The Statutes of the Way and the Catechetical Directory of the Way were approved by the Holy See. So, that makes the NCW legitimately approved by the Church.

    2. partial quote from the Popes meeting with the NCW on the 6th

      Dear brothers and sisters,

Peter's task is to confirm his brothers and sisters in the faith. So you too have wanted with this gesture to ask the Successor of Peter to confirm your call, to support your mission, to bless your charism. And I want to confirm your call, support your mission and bless your charism. I’m doing that not because I’ve been paid to: No! (laughs) I’m doing it because I want to. You will go forth in the name of Christ into the world to bring His Gospel: Christ will precede, Christ will accompany and Christ will fulfill the salvation of which you are bearers.

although the subject at hand are the seminaries on Guam.....we are all called to be priest. The bearers of the Gospel.

People who are adamant about the rules, laws and regulations....to quote anonymous Mar 6 9:19 two things that render your post null and void...marginalize the truth to suit their sense of right.

They are not bearers of the truth.

      anonymous March 6, 2015 at 10:24 AM

this person sense of righteousness will not accept the bearers of truth unless they attend St. Patrick.

to quote...Foreigners with no connection to Guam may return to their own country . We do not want them on Guam.

JESUS CHRIST himself would be considered as a foreigner on Guam. If we were to have the same attitude as this person, I would also have to question whether Jesus himself would be accepted at St. Patrick.

"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10)

      praying for both anonymous

    1. Dear Anonymous at 10:24 am,

And what about the Filipino priests that we borrowed from the Philippines? Are you going to send them home too?

    2. Now why in heavens would I want my Filipino Priest to go home. I would prefer them over the RMS priests who are educated to evangelize the world through the NeoCatechumenal Way ergo making THEM NEOCATECHUMENAL PRIESTS AND NOT DIOCESAN. My Tagalog priests gives excellent homilies that I can understand verses one who struggles with his sermons and thinks it flows....it surely flows out of my rear end

    4. Dear Anonymous at 5:50 pm,

This is a very racist statement. First to get rid of all foreigners, and then to prefer only one race over other ethnic groups. It is not Christ like especially to discriminate others because of language. At one time, Chamorros were discriminated by the Americans and punished for speaking their own native language. The Chamorros were put down because English was their second language, and Chamorro children were punished in school for speaking their native language. And now here you are putting down those whose second language is English. How unfortunate that you learned nothing from your history.

And for your information, the RMS priests are diocesan priests just as I pointed out in my entry post.

you are not Catholic because your comments about people who are called to serve will answer to serve where ever God sends us.

This is not Mac Donalds where people who have a passion for a big mac know they can get it...anytime...anyday.

no connection to Guam.......please anonymous......so infantile........like saying Jesus the Jew has not connection to Guam.....we need our own Chamorro savior.

apologize for sounding judgemental but how else can I answer truthfully what is so junvenile.

  8. for those who are against the Archibishop ,go to your parishes and announce every mass that your are against him. Make your own group every parish. So that you will learn the truth. The truth is, you can't form a group if your leader is like Tim rohr.

you affirm scripture.....what goes into the mouth does not make anyone unclean; it is what comes out of the mouth that makes someone unclean.

praying for both you and the priest.....by the tone of your comment, it is apparent that one or both of you are falling. I doubt if it is the priest.
