My Perspective

There are some people who think that Coadjutor Archbishop Byrnes will rescind the Deed Restriction.  These are my thoughts on the matter.  He will NOT rescind the Deed Restriction.  Why?  Because Mr. David Lujan had just recently filed a civil lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Agana regarding the sexual allegations of four people.  The Deed Restriction protects the seminary from such lawsuits.

Because of that protection, it would be unwise to rescind it.  While some people in Guam feel that sacrificing a seminary to save their parishes is more ideal, most Catholic Bishops are aware that a seminary is a valuable asset to the Catholic Church.  The first thing that will be sold will be the parishes.  Why? Considering the size of Guam, this island has too many Catholic parishes. Some of them are within close proximity to each other.  So, yes, the parishes would be the first ones to close down.  Coming from a huge metropolitan area like Detroit, it would come as no surprise if Archbishop Byrnes would find that combining the parishioners from different villages into one parish would be a more logical and feasible solution to settle the sex allegation lawsuit.

  1. Since Fr. Mike had no problems with Bill 326, his parish can close down first.

  2. Dear Diana, why do you equate the property with the seminary? The seminary can continue without being located at that particular property, can't it? After all, it began when the property was not available.

    So your perspective is illogical.

And its nice to see that you are finally being honest about what the NCW thinks of "parishes" - that they are superfluous. Or are you simply fear-mongering?

    1. Seminary can be located in the old Monastery. Sooner RMS is closed we can save money and open a shelter for the homeless and feed street children of Guam.

    2. Dear Anonymous at 11:16 pm,

You are already saving money. RMS already said that they will function without the help of the Archdiocese.

    3. Interesting 11.16am. I live on Guam I don't see street children?

"Street children" is another term for homeless children. Go to Guma San Jose--especially during dinner. Talk with the people and they will tell you about homeless families with children.

  3. Diana I doubt very much Archbishop Michael will close down a parish. He will rather study the financial position of the Archdiocese and notice we are in debt to banks. Based on this and the need to give Justice to the victims of abuse decesions will need to be made. Considering RMS is not essential to Guam I think it best we sell the property to pay our debts.

    1. Archbishop Michael will take over an archdiocese in distress. Therefore he cannot afford any reasonable option to be taken off the table, including the RMS! A diocese in distress may and should take extraordinary measures to secure the uninterrupted functionality of church operations. Archbishop Michael will be ready to take that extra authority to make the necessary changes.

The seminary's exclusive right to use the former Accion Hotel as their living quarter is completely unjustifiable. Taking a 3-star luxury hotel with its lavish pool and gym is just unfit for the education of those who, as future priests, follow the vow of poverty! Ths is a mocking of non-NCW clergy.

What is more, the property is not suitable for educational purposes. There are no lecture rooms or proper demonstration technology. The library is disfunctional. At least 50-60% of the available space is unused. RMS would be better off to operate in a more concise environment. If the Toto parish is going to be closed then RMS may move to Toto.

    2. Dear Anonymous at 11:26 am,

The closing of a parish means that the property will be sold and the money will go into paying for the sex allegation. After selling the property, the church cannot use the property. The parishioners of Toto will have to find a property to build their church.

Say whatever you want about the seminary, but the deed restrictions protects it from being sold. If there is anyone to be blame, blame it on the Junglewatch nation who pushed to have the bill passed. They were the ones who saw no problem in suing the institution. We,on the other hand, prefer that they sue the individuals rather than the institution. The bill endorsed by the jungle was an unjust bill to begin with because it punished innocent people. This was why Zoltan testified against the bill and why the Catholic Families for Apuron pushed to get petitions signed in the hopes that the governor would veto the bill.

    3. Dear Diana, try to think with the head of the future bishop. He will come here and find great distress. He'll ask about Public Law 33-187 (formerly bill 326-33). He wants to know who is responsible for that piece of legislation.

Who is responsible, Diana? JW, CCOG, LFM, Tim Rohr, David Lujan, NCW leadership, Archbishop Apuron, Archbishop Hon, Senators Frank Blas, Frank Aguon, BJ Cruz, etc., Governor Calvo? Who is responsible? The fact is that the whole process that led to Public Law 33-187 cannot ever be undone. It remains part of the history of the Gaum Catholic Church forever. Atrchbishop Michael will be greatly puzzled on this state of affairs caused by allegedly Catholic believers.

When the future bishop looks around, he will find that the Accion Hotel is an unnecessary luxury for a church in distress. It is not a charge, it is an observation. Taking over the corporation sole, the new bishop will be in the position to lift any legal claim and restriction on the property. Do you oppose that?

RMS is not and cannot be off limit. This is the Achilles heel of the situation. If RMS is off limit, then people will be upset when parishes are going to be closed. Relocation RMS from a luxury excess into a modest and humble place would have great spiritual benefits for the seminarians. Don't you think they need to learn humbleness?

The new bishop will have pastoral care for everyone in the diocese, including the seminarians. He will care for their spiritual growth in simplicity and humbleness. He'll pick them out of a corrupting and lavish environment and insert them among the poor of Jesus Christ so that they learn true humility for the Lord.

The new bishop will also need to look at the charges that the Accion Hotel was not given to the RMS by the Holy Spirit, but by plot and deceit.

    4. All this talk about closing down a parish that continues to have standing room during the Sunday Services. What about the parishes pastored by RMS priests where the attendance is very few.

  5. Diana,

Close down toto church its been the root of the problem since back when father manny sent the copies of the letter out to parishioners. Its also about time that the finance council at toto release the info about that secret account at FHB. Want to know more?

There is also another interesting story that hasnt been talked about. Why didnt the transfer to yigo happen? Yigo was waiting for him, minus his entourage. What happen to the report that was filed to the chancery? I guess its hushy hush hush.

Rev. Mike has been known to be making noise about the RMS being the sole user of the yona property.

Did anyone here about the removal of the office of family and youth ministry? Miss Helen Flores doesnt have a job anymore.

    Pas!

    1. Dear Jokers Wild,

So, Father Mike Crisostomo has been transferred to Yigo, and he has not reported to the Yigo parish? Is he appealing his transfer like Father Adrian? I find it interesting that the jungle has left this news out. I do not know what has happen to Mrs. Flores.

    2. Diana,

The transfer was planned and sources say that Rev. Mike was actually looking forward to it but apparently there was something that happened. I dont want to speculate anything about why, all you need to do is ask around. There was never an Aviso so technically it never happened so hes safe there. It was almost a done deal though but something happened substantial enough to postpone his transfer.
Remember the talks of a Moratorium on the NCW? It initially came out of Rev. Mikes mouth but it ended there. Only to be continued by his faithful Jon Taitano, this was because Rev. Mike didnt have time to pursue it because of the transfer. My sources say that the transfer was very much anticipated that even a lady from toto was inquiring about houses for sale in the yigo area because she was gonna move her entire family to yigo to still remain parishioners of Rev. Mike.
I did hear through the grape vine that the office of family was closing. Whether it was true or not, Im not sure, just wanted to see if anyone else heard about it.

      Pas!

  7. They(CCOG,LFM,RoHRS) cannot sale the RMS property even the deed is lifted. Rome own the property. Anything over a mill Rome has to approve it. These folks don't get this seminary is a gift and the heart of the Catholic Church in Guam for evangelization. AB hon failed for pushing Msgr Benavente to be the next Bishop. Now that said, we await for AG's office decision.

    1. Anon @ 1:11 PM, you don't get it do you.
Hon was not here to "push" for Msgr Benavente to be the next bishop. Hon came to make sure that the line of succession stayed with VG Msgr David and Chancellor Fr Adrian. That's why he kept them in key positions as long as he could.
