First of all, the center is NOT the Neocatechumenal Way Center. It is called the "Rainan I Langet" Center because it belongs to that Foundation. According to its statutes, the NCW cannot own any property; therefore, the building is owned by the Rainan I Langet Foundation. I do not know if Archbishop Byrnes was informed about the center in Asan, but I do not see why he needed to be informed about a building that does not belong to the Archdiocese or the NCW. I do not see why he should even be bothered by a building that is owned by someone else outside the Archdiocese. The Foundation gave the NCW exclusive rights to use the center; therefore, people can see us taking care of the building. Also, the NCW is not using any funds from the Archdiocese or the parish to maintain and use the center. The NCW will be using the center for its word celebration and conviviences.AnonymousJuly 22, 2018 at 10:19 PMOff topic. Someone was asking if Archbishop Byrnes was informed that a Neocatechumenal Way Center was being set up in Asan. I said to him 'Why should the Archbishop be informed if no diocese funds were being used?'
Don't know if Archbishop Byrnes was informed or not. But this raises the question 'Do all activities of the local Catholic Church need to be forwarded to the Archbishop? Does he need to approve of these activities?'
So do all calendar of events of each parish and of each Catholic organization need to be sent to Archbishop Byrnes for approval? What about calendar changes? Do these need approval too? Retreats off island and on island, does the Archbishop need to approve of these? Do CCD bake sales need approval from the Archbishop?
You ask if all activities of the Catholic Church need to be forwarded to the Archbishop. I don't think activities such as bake sales need approval from the Archbishop so long as the parishes follow the established guidelines for fundraising and have the approval of the parish priest.
It's Rainan I Langet Foundation.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous at 11:26 am,
DeleteThank you for the correction. I will correct the spelling.
The NCW communities know it as the NCW Center. Someone needs to inform the brothers that it is the "Rainen I Languet" Center. That's a mouthful. May need a nickname like "The Asan Center".
ReplyDeleteYes. We should refrain from calling it the NCW Center. It may cause confusion. I can already picture Bob Klitzkie demanding the AG to investigate Land Management over the title of the center.
DeleteBoy talk about wanting to be micromanaged. Move forward already. The NCW is here to stay. Why keep questioning everything they do. Do they question the Divine Mercy’s group, the Legion of Mary, The knights of Columbus, all Altar Servers activities, really of all these need to go to the Archbishop to make a move then the work of the church rests only on him. I feel bad for him if that’s the expectation being laid on him. He has priests and delegates to do all that. His mission is shepherd of the flock not task master. #wearecatholicstoo

Won't be long before non-Neos complain about the name 'Rainan I Langet' (Queen of Heaven). And then the call for an investigation into this Foundation. As Anonymous at 1:59PM said, 'The NCW is here to stay. Why keep questioning everything they do.'
ReplyDeleteAre you making a general statement that all traditional Catholics are are going to complain about your center. I could care less what you Neos do.
DeleteSEE445. Thank you. One less person to 'care less what you Neos do.'
DeleteSaw the Aviso in the Umatuna that Father Ronald Richards is appointed as Special Assistant to the Archbishop and Weekend Associate at St. Anthony Church. There are at least 3 priests desiring to return to Guam and could help out at St. Anthony Church. Father Aurelius, Harold and Pedro were ordained here.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous at 11:18 am,
DeleteIs there a reason why Archbishop Byrnes need a special assistant? Guam is a very small island.
Maybe Archbishop Byrnes needs someone who he can trust and consult. Someone he knows personally and has a history with. Has Archbishop Byrnes lost some confidence in our local clergy? These priests and deacons whom he initially entrusted with responsibility for important diocese matters?
DeleteWhy did they leave in the first place. I remembered Pedro leaving right after his ordination. He was on mission for a long time. How is that conducive to the church on Guam.
DeleteDear Anonymous at 9:30 am,
DeleteThere were 17 priests ordained for Guam from RMS seminary. That was more than enough for Guam that some of them were able to go on mission and spread the Gospel. We had more than enough that we were able to help other diocese such as Saipan who are lacking priests.
Now with the seminary closed, Guam is no longer producing any priests. After more of the priests in Guam retire or called home by God, the rest of the priests on mission will return, provided of course that they did not find another Bishop to take them in. Remember these were the priests whom the jungle wanted to drive out of Guam in the first place.
The closure of Guam's seminary only brought us back to borrowing priests from the Philippines.

ReplyDeleteWe are grateful to Father Carl at the Our Lady of Peace and Safe Journey Catholic Church in Chalan Pago. He allows the communities to continue their walk in the parish. Father Carl has, at times, celebrated the Eucharist with the communities. He also joins and helps with the Penitential Celebrations. Father Carl allows for other priests to preside the Celebrations of the Eucharist on Saturdays. Don't know what kind of pressure he gets from others regarding the presence of the Way in the parish. But I think Father Carl continues to support the communities since he sees the fruits of the communities. Brothers actively serve in the parish in many ways. CCD teachers, choir, altar servers, lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, parish council, finance council, parish office staff.
We bless and thank God for Father Carl's support for all the charisms in the parish.
In addition to that, the NCW in Chalan Pago made upgrades to the parish by installing new tiles in the social hall and sacred heart hall at no cost to the parish. They completely renovated one of CCD classrooms and donated tables for the classrooms at no cost to the parish. They also provide flowers for altar in the parish once a month and participate in the parish activities and fiestas.
DeleteFr. Jonathan, the new priest in Asan is also supportive of the Way. He has allowed the brothers in Asan to celebrate our Eucharist there. Being a new priest there, he will soon see the contributions of the Way in Asan.
DeleteDear Anonymous at 10:12 am,
DeleteIt was because of these contributions that jealousy reared its ugly head in the junglefolks. They wanted the NCW to spend all their time and money only on the parish. So, they complain when we spend money on off-island pilgrimages, on the mission, and on retreats at the hotel. They will soon complain about the NCW spending money on the Asan center.....money they feel should be given to the Archdiocese or the parish.
As I previously said, there are priests who are not walking in the Way who have no problems with the NCW. They know we are part of their flock.
It's only right that we pay for the usage of the Rainan I Langet Center. And it's only right that we maintain the Center since the owner already granted us all rights to use it for our celebrations and conviviences.
DeleteThis Saturday, July 28, will be a sale of everything remaining at the former RMS Seminary in Yona. Cash only basis. Whenever I hear or read anything about the RMS in Yona, I feel sad. The seminary produced 17 priests. I should rejoice instead for at least these 17 vocations.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame I remember walking in and seeing all the books in the library the beautiful woodwork and that's who built it then I was told to turn around and seen a Very Old Man I asked did you build all this he said yes I said beautiful work what a shame
ReplyDeleteWasn't the Seminary run and work on by volunteers
DeleteWhen do you think the Asan Center will be ready for the communities to use?
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous at 9:40 am,
DeleteIt should be ready by September or October. The demolition work has already been done, and they are currently in the process of painting.
