From Vatican News

Good news brothers and sisters,

The Pope did not ask Archbishop Apuron to resign.  He still remains the Archbishop of Guam.  That is excellent news.  The Holy Father has appointed Francesco S.E. Mgr. Savio Hon Tai-Fai, S.D.B., apostolic administrator "sede plena" of the Archdiocese of Agana, in Guam.  An Apostolic Administrator has been temporarily assigned until this episode of sexual abuse allegations is cleared up.

  1. Makes you wonder why Archbishop Apuron just didn't step aside on his own.

Because he wants to follow the Pope.

    2. Huh? What do you mean he wants to follow the Pope?

  2. No. This is not good news. The Pope had to force Apuron to step down when the Archbishop should have done so on his own. Try not to remain in this state of denial. I pray for you.

    1. Dear Anonymous at 11:07 pm,

Where did you hear that? The Pope did not even ask the Archbishop to step down because he is still the Archbishop of Guam. A Apostolic Adminstrator was temporarily assigned, and the Archbishop will continue the lawsuit.

  3. The Pope can't very well ask him to step down without grounds, nor should he. But stepping aside for the investigation isn't done "because he wants to follow the Pope." AAA has no choice now. It would have been far better and a sign of good faith if he had done so earlier. It would have strengthened his position, and for many people given him a lot more credibility.

    1. Dear Anonymous at 11:31 am,

Actually, it was an even better sign to show that he follows the Pope rather than the jungle who wanted him to step down all along. It is better to see that our Archbishop is obedient to the Pope rather than obedient to a man in the jungle.

    2. How in the world do you figure bashing alleged victims in the press and threats of canonical punishment while removing yourself from accountability as "following the Pope?" It's one thing to not bow to Rohr; it's quite another to say that the Pope blesses a refusal to take steps to resolve all this.

Diana, on many things here, I see your point of view, although I sometimes disagree. But on this one, it's a bit obtuse.

    3. Dear Anonymous at 5:32 am,

Pope Francis is very strict on the sex abuse policy and he could have removed the Archbishop or even asked him to resign. He did neither of those things. He allowed Archbishop Apuron to still remain the Archbishop of Guam. As the Archdiocese said, they have uncovered a plot to topple the Archbishop at whatever cost. There is a good possibility that the Archbishop had made Rome aware of that plot.

  4. It's also good news to see that the Pope chose someone who supports the Way.

    1. The real question is this: do you want someone who supports the Way, or do you want someone who will bring justice to all parties and bring healing to the island? If you only want what's good for your, then you're no better than Rohr. NCW isn't going anywhere either way. Honestly, what does it matter if he's sympathetic? No matter what, the finding will reported in full to Rome, and Rome is a lot more patient about things than the press or bloggers generally.

    2. Dear Anonymous at 5:34 am,

I agree with you. Personally, I hope that he would spear-head the investigation and find replacement for the Review Board. With Archbishop Hon here, this would also give Archbishop Apuron more time to focus more on the lawsuit.

    3. Stop the lawsuit threats. AA is not going to sue!!!!

    4. Dear Anonymous at 7:54 am,

They are not threats. The jungle was wrong when they said that the Archbishop was in Manila. He was in Rome all during that time. The Umatuna was correct. The ordination was postponed because he was off-island. Taking care of the sex abuse allegation was a top priority for him.

    5. Of course they're just threats. What happened to the one against John Toves?

    6. Dear Anonymous at 11:46 am,

This time is different. John Toves was a third party. Roy Quintanilla, on the other hand, claims that he was sexually abused by the Archbishop. With Archbishop Hon, we can now move forward with the investigations and the Archbishop Apuron can focus on the civil lawsuit. The Archdiocese claims that they have uncovered a plot to topple the Archbishop. Perhaps, the sex abuse case is linked to that plot. Who knows.

  5. Great news! We still have our Archbishop and we also get someone temporarily who loves the NCW.

Did you not hear the Archbishop say, "Enough is enough"? This is why I think he is very serious. This conflict has been going on for three years. It is time to somehow put an end to it.

Of course, there are. That was already predicted.

    4. Diana, what do you mean by that "Of course there are"? Are you suggesting that there is no truth to the allegations?

If these allegations turn out to be true, what will that mean for you, for Fr Edivaldo, for Fr Adrian, and for the NCW more generally?

It was the jungle who claimed that he went to Manila to bribe Father Blockley. I never said anything about his whereabouts.

    2. You never said anything about his whereabouts? Give me a break. What about this, that you wrote only earlier today?

That's the trouble with lies. You get caught out.

That comment was written after the Archbishop came out on video showing he was in Rome. Before that, I never said anything about his whereabouts.

  8. Is anyone without sin? Archbishop is being mercilessly accused. What about us? What about the Archbishop's accusers? I don't know what the truth is. God knows. This is just opening up a can of worms that maybe some of our other local priests would rather not be brought out into the open.

The passage in the bible about the woman caught in adultery comes to mind. In the Gospel of John 8:1-11, we see how the scribes and Pharisees brought to Jesus a woman accused of adultery. They wanted to stone her to death. In John 8:7, Jesus says, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Then in verse 9, 'And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he was left alone with the woman before him.'

Are any of us sinless? Why let Satan destroy our local Catholic Church? Let's acknowledge that each of us, everyone, has made mistakes in our lives. Let's overcome the deadly sin of 'Pride' and ask for forgiveness. Let's allow God to turn these events into a good, to create victory over evil.

    Romans 8:31-39

    31
What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
    32
He who did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along with him?
    33
Who will bring a charge against God’s chosen ones? It is God who acquits us.
    34
Who will condemn? It is Christ [Jesus] who died, rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.
    35
What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword?
    36
    As it is written:
    “For your sake we are being slain all the day;
we are looked upon as sheep to be slaughtered.”
    37
No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us.
    38
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers,
    39
nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    Jesus said in John 13:

    34
I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.
    35
This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Are we disciples of Jesus Christ? God does work miracles. Let's pray. Let's forgive. Let's reconcile. We don't know when God will call us. I, for one, would like to enter into heaven, into eternal life. I will take the first step to ask for forgiveness, hope forgiveness is given, and be reconciled. What about the rest of us?

  9. For the wages of sin is death. We can forgive and move on but still, we have to face the consequences of our wrong doings. I can't violate your rights and just get away by saying "I'm sorry!".
