Congratulations To Paul O'Reilly!

Paul O'Reilly was a former RMS seminarian in Guam who was walking in one of the NCW communities.  He was recently ordained a deacon by Archbishop Eamonn Martin, Archbishop of Armagh, Ireland.  He was supposed to be ordained a deacon in Guam on June 4, 2016, but that never happened.  Congratulations to Deacon Paul O'Reilly.

  1. Paul is a charming person. I am sure he will do a lot of good. Pity that Guam lost his services...

  2. Wonder how Archbishop Byrnes will respond should he attend the next meeting of US Catholic Bishops. Will he say "You're welcome!" when bishops thank him for the fine priests who were formed at RMS Guam? I think there were 20 to 30 seminarians studying at RMS Guam before it was closed. Will Bishop Byrnes continue to acknowledge the gratitude extended to him by bishops throughout the USA? Will he regret not having these 20-30 prospective priests incardinated into the Archdiocese of Agana?

  3. Any news on the Yona property? Have they managed to sell it or is it still abandoned and deteriorating?

    2. Its not abandoned. Someone is staying there to keep it going. I heard that Msgr James and Fr. Mike had a meeting their last month. If you pass through Yona at night, you can see the lights of the seminary still on. So someone is there...

    3. Dear Guamboy,

Really??? How interesting. And is the Archdiocese maintaining the grounds?

  4. Off topic. The next World Youth Day will be in Panama from Jan 22-27, 2019. I have not heard of any organized plans for the Guam communities to go to this. This is about 6 months from now. Wonder what the catechists' plans are for this.

    1. Dear Anonymous at 4:36 pm,

I also have not heard anything from the catechists. Unlike previous WYD, the dates of the Panama WYD is also set during the school year rather than the summer.

    2. So I recall early last year, the announcement we got, that communities on Guam will not be organizing to go to this upcoming WYD. Although I think individuals can still make their own arrangements and go.

    3. If the Way isn't going to organize the WYD to Panama, this can be the opportunity for the archdiocese to organize their own WYD to Panama. It doesn't have to be the NCW all the time. It's just a matter of who in the archdiocese will lead it?

    4. Dear Anonymous at 5:49PM,

This sounds like a good idea. The Santa Teresita Parish in Mangilao has a very active youth ministry. Maybe they can organize a pilgrimage of our archdiocese youth to WYD Panama.

    5. Dear Anonymous at 5:49 and 6:52 pm,

I agree. The Archdiocesan WYD pilgrimage to Panama can also inspire some of Guam's youth into the priesthood.

  5. Congratulations to Deacon Paul. I remember him here on Guam. I guess Archbishop Byrnes does not like the NCW. He lost so many vocations. What happened to Preston? I hope he is ok. I pray for all the RMS seminarians that Byrnes chased away. I pray for our Guam seminarians like Preston and Aston. I hope the two will come back one day visit. But Byrnes is choosing one side and forgot about the people in the NCW. I guess he and his people are out to get rid of NCW. But, they're not going anywhere. Keep up the good work dear friends in the NCW, for your reward will be great in heaven.

  7. The Archbishop is Dr. Eamonn Martin, Archbishop of Armagh. He is pictured above with Rev.O'Reilly. The picture is not of Dr. Martin of the Dublin Archdiocese.
