Upcoming Ordinations

I just received some good news today.  Our Asan 1 brother seminarian Jose Santos Hernandez is being ordained a priest on February 8, 2019 in Mexico.  He was one of the seminarians who was rejected by the Archdiocese.  I just wanted to share this good news that was brought to me.  Hopefully, by February, I will be able to get some photos after his ordination.

As for the four seminarians who were accepted by Archbishop Byrnes, they are currently in the St. Patrick's seminary in California.  These four are Junee, William, Ronald, and Derek.  According to Guamboy, out of the four, only two of them are on track to being ordain a deacon next year.  Those two are Junee and Ronald. Both Junee and Ronald are the product of the Blessed Diego Theological Institue on Guam, which is the same schooling as the RMS seminarians.

As for the other two, Derek was accepted this past summer into the seminary for the Archdiocese.  And William, who earned a Masters Degree in Theology from the Philippines was told that his credits were not recognized.  Therefore, he was pushed back several years before being ordain a deacon.

At any rate, we also look forward to the two Guam seminarians (Ronald and Junee) who will be ordained a deacon next year.  Both of them received the same training as the RMS seminarians and both of them remained on track.  We also look forward to the ordination of Jose Santos Hernandez into the priesthood.  There are also four other RMS seminarians who will be ordain as deacons or priests in May, 2019.  We also look forward to those ordinations.  Despite that the Yona seminary has been closed down, kudos goes to the Yona seminary and the Blessed Diego Institute for producing all these fruits.

  1. With all these ordinations coming up, the people of Guam will now know that RMS and the Blessed Diego Institute were true and legitimate institutions.

With RMS and the Blessed Diego Institute gone, Byrnes is gonna have to raise funds for the Guam seminarians. Before that, the Archdiocese never had to raise funds for the seminarians.

    1. Dear Anonymous at 9:21 am,

Yes, Archbishop Byrnes has to work very hard to support our Guam seminarians. There is only 4bof them, but each cost a lot if money. According to the Umatuna:

"Hit a golf ball, help a seminarian.

The Archdiocese of Agaña will hold its second annual Archbishop Byrnes Fundraising Golf Tournament on Friday, Aug. 31 with this year’s proceeds dedicated to supporting the education of Guam’s future priests.

The tournament will take place at the Onward Talofofo Golf Club. Tee time is 12 noon and the competition is open to males and females.

The archdiocese has four young men who are currently studying for the priesthood at St. Patrick Seminary in Menlo Park, California. The seminarians are Dereck Delgado, William Mamangun, Ron Pangan and Junee Valencia.

All financial contributions and funds raised through the tournament will support the seminarians’ tuition and other costs."

When we had the seminary in Yona, it was unheard of for the Archdiocese to hold a fundraiser for the cost of the seminary. Rather, it was the seminary who held an annual Gala dinner, and the majority of those who attended the expensive Gala dinner were the NCW communities.

    2. It’s only right that AB Byrnes should work hard in fundraising for their formation. He was the one who closed down the seminary so he should be responsible in fundraising for the Guam seminarians. My question is where’s CCOG? Didn’t CCOG say they would help to fundraise for Guam’s seminarians? Didn’t they say they would encourage Guam’s men into the priesthood? So what have they done so far to make that happen?

In my community, two young men stood up for the priesthood during our transmittal. The first young man is in his twenties while the other is 15 years old. Both of them are from Guam. The 15 year old cannot enter the seminary, but the young man in his twenties is eligible. The NCW in Guam continues to encourage young men into the priesthood, but what is CCOG doing?

    3. CCOG. Concerned Catholics Of Guam. Where are their fruits? They have been in existence for a few years and all their activities were negative. They are more 'Conspiring' than 'Concerned'. They conspired in destroying Archbishop Anthony Apuron. They conspired in helping to close the RMS. They are still conspiring to try to get rid of the Neocatechumenal Way communities in Guam. CCOG will not succeed. Why? Because the Way is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. We pray for CCOG for their conversion of heart.

  2. Does the NCW financially support Byrnes seminarians, or do they just support their own?
Sounds like they take great pleasure in Byrnes struggles.

    1. Dear Anonymous at 4:21 pm,

Byrnes' seminarians????? 😲 So, they are NOT Guam's seminarians?????

My family and I support the Guam's seminarians. As anyone can clearly see in this blog, I have never said anything negative about them nor have I ever rejected them. The junglefolks, on the other hand, have rejected the RMS priests and seminarians.

    2. Coadjutor Archbishop Byrnes is doing what he can to support the four seminarians at St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park, California. He chose to close the RMS and the St. John Paul the Great Seminary. Now, Byrnes is seeing that it costs more to educate seminarians off island compared to when they were being formed on Guam. I suggest that Coadjutor Archbishop Byrnes ask CCOG to help in financially supporting Ron, Will, Dereck and Junee.

  4. Diana I believe there was also an Ordination to the Priesthood for Eneliko and by Guam time today, Antonio will also be ordained. These two are part of the group of seminarians from Samoa.
I dont understand these past few years and I probably never will but seeing and hearing of all these fruits and despite all the negative comments and unjust actions, I believe it in my heart that our prayers and support of the former Guam RMS was not in vain. I will forever hold all of the memories and ponder them in my heart.
I also support the seminarians who are in the mainland for formation. I know most of them and also did some ministry work with Junee in the past. I hope that they see it through and remain steadfast in their answer to the will of God, no matter what it may be.
    Pas!

  5. My family and I support the Guam's seminarians
I believe the question 421PM was asking was "does the NCW "financially" support these seminarians?"

    1. Dear Anonymous at 1:52 am,

I do not speak for the NCW. I can only speak for my family. My family supports the Guam seminarians even through monetary donations. However, I agree with Anonymous 6:21. Archbishop Byrnes should ask CCOG to financially support the Guam seminarians since they wanted the seminaries closed in the first place.
