Church fires back, says protesters will be sued

They've taken the hits, but now they're fighting back. In a press release, the Archdiocese of Agana wants to set the record straight - that the last three years of allegations and protests against the local Catholic church have been mere attacks to undermine the authority of Archbishop Anthony Apuron.

Enough is enough  this from the Archdiocese of Agana which issued a press release stating they're preparing to file a civil lawsuit against those who have spread malicious lies concerning the local Catholic church. We've seen it unfold over the last three years: concerns about transparency, concerns about the ownership of the Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Yona, and most recently, allegations that Archbishop Apuron has a history of molestation dating back 40 years.

According to the release, "For the past three years the Catholic Church in Guam has been constantly targeted by a series of lies destined to undermine the authority of the archbishop. In order to help the people understand the defamatory nature of these attacks, let us review the series of intentional and malicious lies that have been spread by the media." One by one, the release debunks the allegations and contends the Archdiocese of Agana remains the sole owner of the RMS as supported by the title deed of property, which was made public.

As for transparency, the release states Archbishop Apruon is available to the people - as seen almost every night celebrating in different parishes, visiting schools, and celebrations on Sundays.

The release alleges that the attacks on the archbishop are a result of his stance against abortion, casino gambling, legalization of marijuana, and same-sex marriage. "It is clear that his efforts displeased many people whose interests are not for the common good of Guam, but for their own personal interests. Whoever joins in this attack against our Catholic faith, our Catholic Church, is neither Catholic nor Christian; this kind of malice lacks the spirit of Jesus Christ. After keeping silent for a long time, since those who are orchestrating this campaign are inducing people into scandal, confusion and grave errors with the malicious intent to injure the archbishop, the church in Guam and many other people have been insulted and harassed, the Archdiocese of Agana is in the process of taking canonical measures with the Sacra Rota - the competent canonical tribunal - and filing civil lawsuit against those perpetrating these malicious lies."

  3. Truth. What is truth? John 18:37, Jesus said "...I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” Do the jungle, lfm and ccog belong to the truth? They spew accusations against the Archbishop and the NCW. They say "bring it on!" Well then, jungle, lfm and ccog, bring it on! Bring on the documents, witnesses and other evidence to substantiate your accusations. You ask for documents regarding ownership of the RMS land and building. Certificate of title presented to the public. You claim the NCW is not Catholic. From Pope Paul VI to Pope Francis, each have praised and blessed NCW's post-baptismal itinerary, evangelization and vocations to the priesthood and religious life. What are the fruits of the jungle, lfm and ccog? Negativity upon negativity upon negativity. Has the jungle, lfm and ccog consulted their clergy friends about the ramifications of their actions? Are they really ready to face the truth? How many lives must be destroyed because of their deeds? Heed the words of Matthew chapter 24.

Not this time. This time, the jungle went too far. Tim's poster that was paid by CCOG with thousands of dollars with the specific dates and locations was a direct attack on the Archbishop. All the things that Father Edivaldo listed on the press release are the charges they will be facing in court. The Archbishop is fully aware that the jungle, LFM, and CCOG will not stop because their main goal is NOT justice. Their main goal is to remove him and to destroy the Church.

    3. I agree with 9:12 am. This action from archbishop is called "tough love". After 3 years, if the stray sheep refuse to listen, then it's time to discipline the stray sheep. When a father disciplines his child, it's because he loves the child. That's what Fr. Edivaldo always say in his homily.

Protesting is not against the law, but defamation is. According to some of those signs the protestors are holding, they are telling the Archbishop to restore the RMS property. Therefore, that means that they are calling him a liar because he already said that the property was never given away. Being called a lair is a defamation of character.

    8. Dear Anonymous at 10:40 am,

He already did that so many times. Even the Gennarinis came out to the media to ensure everyone that he does not own the property, and he was still called a liar.

On the contrary, YOUR plan was to remove the Archbishop. Going through a lawsuit will determine who is telling the truth. And all the evidence is on the Archbishop's side. And going through canonical measures will probably get you excommunicated.

The division is coming from the promoters of that ad.

Their definition of healing is YOU MUST RESIGN!

Since the get-go they have as asked for answers to explain the actions of the church on Guam. Every single time they have been given, they have gotten a response but it did not satisfy.
They are only following what they are learning from their leaders.
I want to remind you that in one incident and in true reconciliation the archbishop met with Father Paul and apologized for his statements. Now what happened afterwards is what is important. Father Paul then said, I WANT IT IN WRITING!
You see this is exactly what tone has been set. Its this notion that yes lets reconcile but on our terms and conditions.
Personally, I was very troubled by the jungle blog and the other critics in the beginning but I soon realized that they are just a bunch of narcissists. They will always complain, they will never be satisfied and they are always right. I dont pay attention to them anymore.
Now what is bothering is that in their plight to take over the local church, they have recruited innocent elders and young people who are being told that the Bishop and NCW are here to replace the Catholic Church. In their gullibility they have been suckered to believe that is true.
Soon this will be all over because there people who are lifting their prayers to heaven and God will indeed remove the abomination.

      Happy Pentecost!

They are in for a very rude awakening. The word is getting around in the NCW communities that the Archbishop is seriously pursuing a lawsuit and canonical measures. I say...."FINALLY." Someone under this thread pointed out that in his homily, Father Edivaldo usually say that loving parents always disciplines their children.

After three years, I believe it is time for Mother Church to discipline her unruly children in order for them to walk right and fly straight.

    2. Unruly children what are you talking about this time. I believe our children are the children of the future. They should be free as undisciplined as society allows. This allows their creativity to mature.
I never believed in discipling children diana. I want children of the world to be free undjsciplined to allow them to fly.
Regarding need discipline children of the chuech i say. Let the creative mind of our children run free. Do not disciple any person give them freedom to express the inner man. The inner universe of man. To disciple kills the human spirit kills freedom.
Diana children need to be free. No laws regulations total freedom to do as they wish. This will make Godly people.
Discipline is not good diana. We want creative freedom to do whatever we want. No law no regulations. Total freedom body mind soirit.

  19. Please read and meditate on Matthew 18
It deals with the children of God, and woe to those who cause these children to sin, and mercy.

This is just an observation, viewing the mayhem that is happening in Guam, from elsewhere.

Rohr's early-day blogs NEVER sounded like they do now. That being said, I wonder IF the NCW founders and backers would have obeyed the Popes, and not "mislead" one million members, especially in regards to their man-designed Mass, all this ruckus about the seminary, etc. would have happened? All this would be a non-issue - no mud-slinging, no lies, no lawsuits, etc. So, according to Matthew 18, according to God, is Rohr, whose intentions were just to correct the NCW, even culpable in the NCW's accusations? And, if Rohr is not culpable, who is? God, through Matthew is saying "Woe to those who CAUSE these children of God to sin."

God, through the Popes, generously forgave the "NCW's founders and backers" for the many years of lies/errors/mistakes in their teachings/directions before their Statutes were finally corrected and approved in 2008. In this Year of Mercy, we are called to be Merciful Like the Father. Merciful like the lord who forgave his servant's debt (in Matthew 18).

We are ALL called to do the same.

When we look at our own sins, we will not be so quick to judge others. We are to take the plank out of our own eyes before we try to get the sliver out of another's.

    May our Church be ONE.

No true joy, no lasting satisfaction is coming without the Spirit. Those who don't understand this, will despise the Spirit and cruelly sin against Him. We who trust in His coming, who celebrate Him among us at His outpouring on the the day of Pentecost, we know that you cannot have mercy without the humbleness of your heart.

    1. Hi Zoltan can you explain what you mean by superstition? Thank you.

      Delete
    2. Superstition is what people with inadequate intellectual background believe and spread to infect others. There are many superstitions about the Neocatechumenal Way. Like:

      -- NCW is a cult,
      -- NCW is not Catholic,
-- NCW can be driven out of the island,
-- presbyters in the NCW are not consecrated priests,
-- the bread we eat is not the Body of Christ,
-- the wine we drink is not the precious Blood of Christ,
-- the sacrament of Eucharist in the NCW is not valid,
-- the Eucharistic celebration of the NCW is illicit,
      -- etc.

These are all superstitions that have no basis at all. These superstitions are spread by our adversaries who cannot imagine a Catholic church in renewal and cannot accept anything new in the world.

Just go to the Junglewatch blog and you'll see many examples of maliciously spread superstitions about our communities. We have to and will refute all of these malice. Then, it is up to the intellectual background of our adversaries if they are able to overcome their superstitions or not.

It is only possible with true humility in the heart through the Holy Spirit who guides us and leads us with his everlasting holy wisdom. We'll pray that they be open to the true wisdom of God.

      Delete
    3. Yep, when a plumber thinks he is smarter than the last five popes. lol.

      Delete
    4. Dear Zoltan, the way to dispel superstition is with evidence. SO when you say "We have to and will refute all of these malice", I agree.

The first thing then, is to show that when the NCW conduct the Mass, that it follows exactly the prescriptions of the liturgical books, as is stated in the Statutes, and has been reinforced by the popes on a number of occasions. When the Vatican replied to Kiko's letter last year, it stated that the pope affirms that the regulatory charter of the NCW liturgy is found in articles 12 and 13 of the Statutes.

So , now, to dispel any superstitions, please show clearly where the Statutes permit the NCW to sit down to consume communion; to consume communion simultaneously with the priest, and that the priest himself sits down to do so. That would be a start. Please do so.

If you can't show this from your Statutes, then you would have to admit that the allegations regarding the NCW Eucharist that you mentioned above, are not simply superstition, but rather have good foundation.

You seem like a reasonable person, and you value rational thought and intelligence, which is great. Please don't respond with some other train of thought, but simply answer the concern I have raised. Thank you.

      Delete
    5. You do not have concern, Anonymous. You make malicious charges that are utterly unreasonable. You see evidence where there is none! You claim validity to statements that have none! That is why no reasonable person should respond to you.

The train of thought you exhibit is driving you into an irredeemable wreck, away from the living Spirit of our Lord. Sorry, we cannot care about you superstitions that are yours to deal with. Superstitions are not fought by reason. They are fought by rejection.

Therefore, prayer is due for the mercy of God so that He helps you to overcome your superstitions and heal your mind.

Tim Rohr already believes that whatever the Archbishop says is a lie. He has been saying that for the last three years. Tim welcomes the lawsuit. Therefore, the Archbishop will give him what he wants.

From what I understand, the money that CCOG collected was supposed to go to hiring a lawyer for suing the Archbishop. Rather, they chose to use a part of that money to pay for an ad that clearly targets the Archbishop. This is clearly a witch hunt. By paying for this ad, they got themselves involved.

Conflict can be resolve if both sides listen and want to work out the conflict. The jungle, CCOG, and LFM never wanted to listen. They wanted the conflict resolve their way. There was no compromise with them. For three years, the Archdiocese have been saying that the RMS property belongs to the Archbishop, but the jungle, CCOG, and LFM still have not been able to get passed that. Since they disagree, a lawsuit would settle that problem, and there you have unity. Once the judge rules in favor of the Archbishop, the jungle, CCOG, and LFM have no choice but to concede defeat.
