Welcome Cardinal Paul Josef Cordes

Hafa Adai and welcome to Guam Cardinal Cordes.  One of things that visitors to Guam remember the most is the Chamorro hospitality.  Cardinal Cordes will be in Guam a 10 session course on Theology of the Priesthood from April 22 - 30.

A seasoned cardinal who has held top positions in multiple pontifical councils and congregations will travel to Guam this week to teach a 10-session course on the Theology of the Priesthood.
Cardinal Paul Josef Cordes will teach the course on the Theology of the Priesthood April 22-30, 2016 at the Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores Catholic Theological Institute for Oceania in Yona.
All priests, deacons and seminarians, are invited to the sessions which will run from 8:30-11 a.m.
Born in 1934, Cardinal Cordes hails from Germany. He is a prolific writer. This will be his first visit to Guam.
Cardinal Cordes’ doctoral dissertation focused on the ministerial Priesthood according to the documents of the Second Vatican Council.
In 1980, Saint Pope John Paul II promoted him to Vice-President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity during which he promoted vigorously the World Youth Day since the beginning.
The Holy Father later assigned him the task of personally accompanying two of the most important ecclesial realities in the Church, the “International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services” (1985) and the “Neocatechumenal Way” (1986).
In 1995 Cardinal Cordes was appointed by Saint Pope John Paul II as President of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum that deals with issues concerning the realization of Ecclesial Charity and the promotion of human Christian development. In 2007 he was elevated to the cardinalate by Pope Benedict XVI.
Until his retirement, he was a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Congregation of Clergy, Congregation for the Cause of Saints, Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, and the Congregation of Bishops.
